Scott Spillane is an important member of the Elephant 6 Collective. He was a member of Neutral Milk Hotel, where he played the horns. However, he has made appearances in albums by the Olivia Tremor Control, of Montreal and Elf Power. He is primarily known for his magnificent beards.
His playing style is very recognizable, and is one of the defining aspects of the groups he played in. He was a member of The Gerbils, where he was the primary singer/songwriter. The group put out one album before breaking up in 1999, but reunited for a short time in 2001 to finish a second record. The group reunited in 2006, but split again after the death of guitarist Will Westbrook. Spillane is currently still an active member of Elephant Six, and is touring with Jeff Mangum.
