Ripping CDs isn't neccessarily hard, there are just some things you should know. Things can get a little technical when getting into codec settings, tagging versions, fixing errors, and many other options available when ripping. We want the best quality rip we can get.

As suggested by What.CD, ExactAudioCopy(often abbreviated as EAC) will be the best program for ripping, but iTunes, foobar2000 and other programs can be used though settings may be limited. Please note that EAC rips in lossless format, to transcode to MP3 you need to use LAME MP3 Encoder.

X Lossless Decoder (XLD) is a tool for Mac OS X that is able to decode/convert/play various 'lossless' audio files. The supported audio files can be split into some tracks with cue sheet when decoding.
