The Olivia Tremor Control were a band belonging to the Elephant 6 Collective. The band was originally formed by Bill Doss, Will Cullen Hart and Jeff Mangum under the name Synthetic Flying Machine. Following the departure of Mangum, the duo rebranded themselves and recruited members Eric Harris, John Fernandes and Peter Erchick.

History[edit | edit source]

The group was one of the most experimental and bizarre of the collective, yet they still had a huge pop sensibility. This was due to the clashing natures of lead songwriters Will Cullen Hart and Bill Doss. Hart leaned more towards the experimentation, while Doss leaned towards pop. The group released 2 albums before breaking up in 2000. Doss would go on to form The Sunshine Fix, and later joined The Apples in Stereo. Meanwhile, Will Cullen Hart formed the successful Circulatory System.

They reunited in 2009, and promptly began touring once more. Shortly thereafter, rumors of a third album being in the works were later confirmed by the band. However, tragically, Bill Doss passed away suddenly in July 2012. In an interview, Will Cullen Hart confirmed the Olivia Tremor Control's remaining lineup will continue touring as Circulatory System, and Olivia Tremor Control will be dissolved. However, he also confirmed a third and final album, titled The Same Place, will be released.
