The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish band formed by brothers Jim and William Reid. Their debut noise pop album "Psychocandy" features feedbacking, distorted, "buzzsaw" guitar-tone over 60s inspired pop melodies and drum beats which went on to inspire later shoegazing acts in the later 80s and 90s. On the first record, drum duties were handled by Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie who played in a similar fashion to Maureen "Moe" Tucker from the Velvet Underground. Later albums saw the brothers go through stylistic changes such as playing acoustic ballads and using drum machines in place of live drums.
